Vehicle Transport For Lenders And Financial Institutions
Recovered and off-lease vehicles carry a problem retail freight does not: the condition on collection is often disputed, and the paperwork has to hold up months later.
Why documentation matters more here
On a normal shipment, the customer walks the vehicle with the driver and both sign. On a recovered unit there is often nobody to walk it with, the vehicle may have been sitting for weeks, and its condition before collection is genuinely unknown.
That is where disputes come from, and it is why the condition report at collection carries more weight on this work than anywhere else. A vehicle collected with existing damage and no record of it becomes an argument between the lender, the recovery agent and the carrier, months after the fact.
What we do about it. Every unit is photographed at collection and again at delivery, and those photos attach to the Bill of Lading rather than sitting informally on a phone. Condition is recorded whether or not anyone is present to sign.
The moves we handle
- Recovery lot to remarketing — from the storage yard to auction or a wholesale centre
- Off-lease returns — grounded units back to the lender's nominated site
- Inter-lot transfers — moving inventory to where it will sell better
- Non-running and immobilised units — winch collection where the vehicle will not start
- Units with missing keys — handled where the vehicle rolls, steers and brakes
- Batch clearances — several units from one storage yard on a single trailer
Practical realities on this work
Three things slow these collections down more than anything else, and all three are fixable before a truck is dispatched.
- Release authority. Storage yards will not release a vehicle to a driver without the correct authorisation, regardless of how far they have travelled. Send the release paperwork with the booking.
- Storage fees running. Yards charge by the day. A week spent arranging transport is real money, so book as soon as the unit is cleared for release rather than after the invoice settles.
- Condition described optimistically. A unit listed as running that will not start means the carrier arrives without a winch and the collection fails.
Chain of custody
Every unit moves with a signed Bill of Lading recording condition at both ends, plus photographs. Where nobody is available at collection, the driver documents condition independently and the record still exists.
That paperwork is what protects the lender if a borrower later disputes the condition of a recovered vehicle, and it is the reason we do not treat the condition report as a formality on this account type.
Volume and lane pricing
Recovery work tends to run on predictable corridors: the same storage yards to the same remarketing sites, month after month. Those lanes go onto agreed rates so your team is not quoting each unit.
Batch collections from a single yard price considerably better per unit than individual pickups, so it is usually worth holding units until several are ready, unless storage fees make waiting the more expensive option.
Lender transport questions
Can you collect a vehicle with no keys?
Yes, provided the vehicle rolls, steers and brakes. Tell us at booking so we assign a carrier equipped for it. A unit that will not roll at all needs different equipment again.
What paperwork do you need to collect from a storage yard?
Whatever that yard requires to release, typically a release authorisation plus the account or case reference. Requirements vary by operator, so send what you have and we will confirm what is missing before dispatching.
How is condition recorded if nobody is present?
The driver documents condition independently, photographs the unit and completes the Bill of Lading. The record exists whether or not a counter-signature is available.
Do you handle units with existing damage?
Yes. The point is that the damage is recorded before the vehicle moves, so it cannot later be attributed to transport.
Can several units move from one yard together?
Yes, and it is significantly cheaper per unit. Send the list and we will plan them onto a single trailer where the release timing allows.
Moving recovered units?
Tell us your recovery volume and the remarketing sites you use. We will build lane rates around them.
